The Centre Canin Des Ruisseaux dates back to the fifties. A passionate lover of  dogs, Robert Des Ruisseaux began his career at the age of 13 in the region of La Mauricie (Québec). He gathered the dogs he could find in his neighbourhood and trained them to the delight of the owners who received a trained dog without doing anything. In 1960, his sense of entrepreneurship helped him develop a brand new market that had never been developed.

The Chenil Le Baron (le Baron Kennels) was created in Trois-Rivières in 1964. This proved to be the start of an enduring and prosperous adventure.

In 1968, Robert Des Ruisseaux begins his police officer career with the Trois-Rivières police department. At the same time, he maintains the management of the Chenil Le Baron. His police duties combined with his solid dog training experience help him improve his skills training police dogs. He attends numerous workshops in Switzerland, France, Belgium and England.  Add to that, training with the Los Angeles and San Francisco police departments and following guiding dog courses for the blind  at Morristown, New Jersey. In 1971, success leads him to put on a masterful display of his dogs at the Québec Chiefs of Police Convention in Trois-Rivières and the Police Institute of Nicolet. The Canine Squad came to life. He is then asked to participate in search and rescue missions and tracking done fugitives from the law. Following this event, Robert Des Ruisseaux is asked by numerous security agencies to put his expertise at work for them, improving their dog training methods.

In 1972, he must choose between staying with the Police Department or pursue a dog training career. His passion and his love for dogs make it easy to decide. The Chenil Le Baron moves to Saint-Boniface and keeps on expanding. Robert Des Ruisseaux opens a bigger training school, adding rental of trained guard dogs for security purposes. At that time, the business has six employees and a dog handler training program is initiated.

In 1974, Robert Des Ruisseaux sets up the Le Baron Protection company, specializing in the rental of guard dogs. In order to distinguish from security and obedience, the Centre Canin Des Ruisseaux is born. In 1980, he moves his business in the industrial sector of Laval and has large facilities built for the Centre Canin, as we now know them.

Today, more than twenty people work at Le Centre Canin Des Ruisseaux. Every week, hundreds of clients come in to buy a dog, for boarding, grooming or training their trusted companion. Robert Des Ruisseaux is a dynamic businessman, but he is foremost a renowned training and breeding specialist. He has been in that field of work for more than forty years, and he has passed on his love for dogs to his children, Louis-Marc and Josée, who work with him at Le Centre Canin Des Ruisseaux.
