EDUCATION AND PREVENTION INFO-PUPPY DES RUISSEAUX

Main goals of this program :

  • Reduce the number of dog bites (almost 117,00 victims in Québec, 65% of which are children under the age of 10).
  • Teach in a practical way the basic rules to be safe in the presence of dogs.
  • Improve the skills of kids to act in risky situations
  • Show the children the language and behaviour of dogs, allowing them to recognize the signs preceding an aggression
  • Make it possible for dog-child encounters to be positive for both
  • Teach respect and responsibility towards animals.

Learning tools we privilege

  • The intervention of a duly trained person with a dog selected to lead pratical exercises and familiarize the child with the presence of the dog.
  • Role play in the presence of the dog
  • Technical support in the form of games and/or drawings suited to different age groups

Procedures and holding the activity

Our teaching methods are adapted to children from 2 to 12 years old. The estimated time of the activity varies from 40 to 55 minutes depending on the age group of the children. The teacher presents periods of simulation and role plays, then ends with a demonstration of his dog’s abilities.

A minimum cost of $4 for each child is asked for a minimum of $150 for each session.

This is the sixth year that we offer this educational and preventive activity and we would be very glad to spend an hour with you and your kids to insure their safety.

Josée DesRuisseaux, program coordinator.
